The Zero-Sum Game

Executive Summary

On average, a high-prescribing, primary care physician in the United States will grant a fixed total of approximately 40 minutes a week to sales calls from pharmaceutical sales reps--regardless of how many reps try to visit him. That means that face time with physicians is a zero-sum game; a company gains an extra share of attention with physicians only at the expense of its other products and other firms.
