Executive SummaryFor up to $775 million in pre-commercial payments, Alios licensed Vertex its preclinical hepatitis C nucleotide analogues. PBMs Express Scripts and Medco decided to merge in a $27.6 billion deal. Two private equity take-outs of wound care device company Kinetic Concepts and automated reagents systems producer Immucor resulted in billion-dollar acquisitions. In June and July, biopharma companies raised a total of $2 billion, while device firms amassed $876 million.

The new US-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement includes language on enhancing regulatory compatibility between the three countries by recognizing quality systems audits performed under the Medical Device Single Audit Program (MDSAP).
