Executive Summary

Johnson & Johnson is suing the American Red Cross for violating its exclusive trademark rights to the Red Cross design and use of the word "Red Cross" on commercial products. The suit, filed Aug. 8 in New York federal court, cites ARC's licensing of the trademark - used by J&J on first-aid supplies since 1887 - to businesses selling products including baby mitts, combs and humidifiers, and notes the organization only has rights to the emblem in connection with non-profit relief services.
