Executive Summary
Aloka, a Japanese manufacturer and distributor of ultrasound systems, has won a contract to become the exclusive distributor of SonoSite's Titan hand-carried ultrasound system in Japan. Japan is the world's second largest ultrasound market, and, according to Aloka, accounted for an estimated $400m in sales in 2003. SonoSite, of Seattle, Washington, believes that the rapidly-growing market in Japan for hand-carried ultrasound systems could eventually equal or exceed the current market for cart-based systems.
