Birmingham health authority in the UK has proposed spending £250 million ($403 million) to develop a system of day-care surgery, with no overnight stays. The authority will consider a draft proposal next month for two new ambulatory care centres, where 85% of patients who need surgery will be seen on a walk in-walk out basis.
