Progress on Indian draft devices legislation – report deadline issued

Executive Summary

Some early progress has been reported regarding the processing of India’s draft Drugs and Cosmetics (Amendment) Bill 2013. The bill, which includes a dedicated chapter on medical devices – the first time devices have had proper regulatory attention in India – has now been referred to the parliamentary standing committee on health and family welfare. The draft law was tabled in the upper house (Rajya Sabha) in late August ( 9 September 2013).
