Executive Summary
Sen. Kennedy (D-Mass.) is expected to introduce legislation April 20 that would provide a federally-funded Medicare drug benefit provided through pharmacy benefit manager contracts on April 20. The legislation is expected to be co-sponsored by Sen. Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), Minority Leader Daschle (D-S.D.) and Finance Committee Ranking Democrat Moynihan (N.Y.). The Finance Committee will begin closed briefings on Medicare issues the week of April 19, and Medicare hearings are expected to begin the following week
