"UV INDEX" MAY BE LAUNCHED AS PILOT PROGRAM in selected cities this summer, according to the National Weather Service. In a May 18 statement on the public information program, the agency said that the "current NWS plan is to implement this Index as an experimental program at selected cities over the U.S. with the exact number and locations still to be determined, but dependent on where verification data exists." A July 4 start-up is currently being considered by the agency.
