Executive Summary
"Supplementary vitamin E intake showed a protective effect against ischemic stroke," Richard Benson, MD, Columbia Presbyterian Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital, et al., conclude in a poster presentation at the American Academy of Neurology annual meeting in Toronto April 20. The risk of stroke was 53% lower in those subjects with higher total vitamin E intake, mainly due to supplementation, Benson et al. found. The study included 342 people who previously had suffered a stroke and 501 controls; the subjects' average age was 69 and the group was 61% women
