Sheer Rain is the first of three scents slated to launch in 1996/1997, according to BeautiControl. This fall the company will introduce its fifth women's scent, a "sexy, spicy floral" fragrance, under the Vintage name while a "modern, light, transparent floral" scent is due out in the spring of 1997. BeautiControl has postponed the introduction of a new men's scent that was scheduled to debut in 1996 ("The Rose Sheet" Dec. 4, p. 6). BeautiControl's other fragrance offerings, all of which bowed in 1994, are the Flair, Charade and Becoming women's scents and the Torch men's scent. BeautiControl is positioning Sheer Rain as a "comfort" scent targeted to a younger audience but noted that the fragrance appeals to a wide range of consumers. Sheer Rain will be featured in a two-page spread in BeautiControl's consumer catalog, which is distributed six times a year to a circulation of 600,000, the firm said. Sheer Rain opens with "green floral" top notes of pink hyacinth, white lily of the valley and blue iris, and a "citrus complex" comprising bergamot, petit grain and neroli accords. The heart includes pink roses, "night blooming jasmine," white water lily and dew melon, for a "fruity appeal," while the dry down contains "watery" base notes of sandalwood, clear tree moss, cedar and clear musk. Sheer Rain is supplied by Quest International. The edt spray is presented in a clear glass bottle with silver graphics and a silver cap. The aqua-green body lotion is housed in a clear pump bottle. The Sheer Rain line is packaged in white outer cartons with gray and aqua-green graphics. The 3.4 oz. edt is priced at $24, the 6 oz. lotion sells at $15 and two 2 oz. soap bars sell at $11. An aromatic candle is available for $8. |
