Launching in the U.S. in August through the direct sales firm's 1,800 sales representatives, Velvet Imari will complement Avon's number one fragrance brand, Imari, which debuted in 1985 as a semi-Oriental blend. The name Imari is derived from a highly prized and collected variety of Japanese porcelain and stoneware. Avon noted it plans to extend Velvet Imari with scented body lotion and talc in 1998.
