Origins is extending its Salt Rub Smoothing body scrub with three new bath and body offerings two years after the successful launch of the original product. The new additions will be available in department stores in October.

The original skin-smoothing paste has been "continually ranked as the number one selling bath product in department stores" and is the top selling Origins body care product overall, the Estee Lauder subsidiary said. In addition to the original body scrub, Origins also markets Let's Circulate Salt Rub Soap, (1 (Also see "Origins" - HBW Insight, 5 Oct, 1998.)).

Based on the popularity of the scrub, Origins is adding Salt Butter Skin-Softening Bath Soak, Salt Suds Foaming Body Wash and Ginger Body Scrub Smoothing Body Buffer. The company also will market a salt-based candle.

Similar to the original exfoliator, the new products are formulated with Dead Sea salt - a blend of essential minerals including magnesium, calcium and potassium. The products also include rosemary to calm and condition skin and peppermint, spearmint and orange to refresh, revive and re-energize, Origins said.

"These minerals allow for the absorption of more moisture, contributing to a more relaxed, supple and youthful body complexion," the company added. Sea salt "is a superb dry skin healer, a natural skin purifier and can be soothing and relaxing to the skin."

Salt Butter Skin-Softening Bath Soak, formulated with coconut oil, moisturizes the skin when dissolved in bath water. The bath soak costs $30. Salt Suds Foaming Body Wash is a clear body wash gel that purifies and brightens skin, the company said. An 8.5 oz. bottle is available for $17.50.

Ginger Body Scrub Smoothing Body Buffer incorporates ginger zest and lemon, lime and bergamot to soothe tired joints and muscles, Origins said. The product was originally developed as a spa treatment at the Origins Feel-Good Spa, Tea Room and Garden in Dallas, Tex. A 21.2 oz. buffer is available for $30.

In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Origins will donate $1 from the sale of any new or existing salt product to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
