Taiwan health authorities ordered recalls of all drugs containing sibutramine, the active pharmaceutical ingredient in Meridia, the weight-loss product of U.S. based Abbott Laboratories. Abbott withdrew the drug from the U.S. market last week after the U.S. FDA expressed concerns about an increased risk of heart problems. Taiwan's Department of Health said the API of Meridia has been licensed locally for 15 weight-loss drugs. Under Taiwan law, all drugs with the API are now recalled.
