Merck sells OTC operations to Bayer for $14.2bn

Edging out other rumored bidders including Reckitt Benckiser and Procter & Gamble, Bayer AG acquired Merck & Co. Inc.’s consumer business for $14.2bn. A portion of that payment is related to sales of Merck’s allergy product Claritin and Afrin nasal decongestant spray in certain countries where they are still only available via prescriptions.
