Executive Summary
Hoping to create a synergistic combination of their specialty pharmaceutical businesses, King Pharmaceuticals has made an unsolicited offer of approximately $1.4bn cash to acquire public drug firm Alpharma. While King is being optimistic in stating the transaction could close by the end of 2008, Alpharma has already rejected the bid, saying it's not in the best interests of the shareholders and doesn't adequately value the company.
