The hospital supply industry has looked with trepidation at the Internet, which has the power to create linkages with hospitals and in the process, put national hospital purchasing groups out of business. But recently, the Internet companies have backed off their claims of disintermediation. Rather, they hope to work with GPOs to bring enhanced efficiencies to hospitals.
