Nanogen's positioning of its in-development molecular biology workstation as a genomics tool as well as an IVD instrument helped it raise $82.5 million in a FOPO--an extraordinary amount for a company long-considered a diagnostics instrument maker. In that way, it 'caught the wave' of the excitement over genomics that hit the stock market in early 2000.
