House Committees Set Key Subpanel Assignments For 113th Congress

House veteran Pete Stark, D-Calif., who served as ranking member of the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, was defeated in his re-election bid on Nov. 6. And Wally Herger, R-Calif., who chaired the subcommittee, already announced his plans to retire earlier this year.
Legislation was reported out of committee last week, with some additional amendments under consideration as the user fee reauthorization bill moves closer to the Senate floor. House members still struggle to reach consensus.
The first legislative salvos were launched last week in a battle that is sure to escalate in conjunction with device user fee reauthorization efforts next year.
