Gallstone gene identified

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

A team of European scientists has identified a gallstone gene variant that could increase the risk of developing gallstones by around 2-3 times. The researchers believe that this is the first identified gene that can indicate the risk of gallstones across the general population. The team, based at the University of Bonn in Germany, and the University Clinic of Cluj-Napoca in Romania, said that the findings could lead to more successful prevention and therapy of the condition.
