NovoSci's dual-lumen disposable haemodialysis catheters:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

US firm NovoSci has received 510(k) clearance from the US FDA to sell its dual-lumen short-term haemodialysis catheters. The D-Line catheters, for use in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), are already available in Europe, South America and Asia. The single-use, disposable products are used to access a patient's vein to direct blood towards the haemodialysis machine. They are made from polyurethane to resist kinks, and have a smaller bore than previous models, to enhance patient comfort. The US has the largest population of ESRD patients in the world, with over 400,000 sufferers requiring either kidney dialysis or transplantation, claimed the firm, based in The Woodlands, Texas.
