Rita Medical Systems has gained the all-clear in the US to sell a radiofrequency ablation (RFA) surgical resection tool that limits blood loss by coagulating blood before any tissue is excised. The HABIB4X resection device, which is also CE-marked for sale in Europe, is expected to be used in liver cancer surgery, said the Fremont, California firm. It is also designed to work with the company's current RFA platform of 1500X generators. Rita Medical added the resection device to its stable of products after signing an exclusive worldwide licence deal with EMcision (see Clinica No 1160, p 18).
