Medicare to cover prothrombin time test?:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Medicare's administrators are considering whether to cover use of the prothrombin time test or the partial prothrombin time test when patients complain of swollen limbs. The health plan currently covers the test to assess patients with signs or symptoms of haemorrhage or thrombosis. However, the list of ICD-9-CM codes covered by Medicare does not include 729.81, "swelling of limb". The agency is examining its current coverage policy.
